Strikers are critical to UC
By Reva Kale, Berkeley| 11/23/2022
Regarding “UC strike leaves students in lurch” (Front Page, Nov. 22): The return to online learning is an unwelcome surprise after spending two of my four years at UC Berkeley taking Zoom classes during the pandemic.
However, I would not have had a quality education without my graduate student instructors. I would not know how to write an academic essay or feel confident asking a question during a lecture without the support of my GSIs.
It is unacceptable that these graduate students, who provide life-changing services, are barely being paid a living wage.
I am proud to use the tools I have been taught at UC Berkeley to engage in informed activism, join the picket line and support the graduate student instructors who formed the foundation of my learning experience at Cal.
I am determined to fight for more education funding at a state level so the UC system can resolve this strike.
