Governor Newsom on CA Education’s Budget

Governor Gavin Newsom and California's largest teachers union have reached a deal to provide billions more in future funding for the state's schools, resolving a public dispute over the budget. Initially, Newsom's proposal aimed to reduce school funding by nearly $12 billion over two years to address a large state deficit. However, after intense pressure from the California Teachers Association, the new agreement promises an additional $5.5 billion for schools in the future. This deal underscores the teachers union's significant influence in budget negotiations, although the union plans to continue its advocacy campaign as the Legislature needs to approve the agreement.

It is imperative to prioritize funding for our schools and ensure that corporations contribute their fair share. Without the steadfast advocacy of the teachers' union, California schools would face severe impacts from these proposed budget cuts. The union's efforts have been crucial in securing the necessary financial support to maintain the quality of education and services provided to students across the state. It is time to recognize the essential role of educational institutions and demand that corporate entities shoulder their rightful portion of the financial responsibility to support our communities and future generations.
