Teens Are Advocating for Mental Health Days Off School

The decline in the mental health of children and adolescents has led to new laws allowing kids to attend to their own self-care.

Student mental health should be prioritized in the time of post-COVID back to school season. Our students have experienced an unprecedented amount of loss, stress, and economic hardship all within the last year. If we want to do right by them we need to provide the proper mental health services and days off to allow our kids to feel comfortable and flourish in their classes, whether in-person or online.

The fact that the pandemic isn’t the only thing causing our students stress only adds to the urgency of providing every student access to proper mental health services. The increasingly competitive environment of college applications, extra-curricular activities, internships, part-time jobs, have all put stress on our kids year after year, and now with the pandemic in the mix “it’s like a pressure cooker that’s locked down.” Read More
