Why I’m Saying Yes to Newsom—The Alternative Is Much, Much Worse
By Hafsah Syed
As we get closer to the Newsom recall election, I’m reminded of the 2016 US presidential election. By many Democrats, the possibility of Trump winning wasn’t taken seriously. We all saw how that turned out.
As California hesitantly reopens amid the rebound of COVID and its variants, we need good leadership that we can rely on to keep us safe and address the myriad of California issues. The last thing we need is a Republican governor.
Good leadership is especially important because California is a trendsetter in American politics. Just like how the rise of Howard Jarvis in California correlates with the subsequent election of Ronald Reagan, a Republican governor brought to power by a recall election WILL affect the rest of the country.
If I didn’t trust Republicans before, I definitely don’t trust Republicans after Trump. Make no mistake, a Republican governor will undo all of the careful progress we’ve made over the past few years. Democrats NEED to show up and vote no this September.
