Why I’m Voting No on the Recall!
By Davina Srioudom
This September, I’ll be voting NO on the upcoming recall election against Governor Newsom. This recall is a clear effort by Republicans to utilize millions of taxpayer dollars and a low voter turnout to oust a Democratically elected official and undermine our political process. I personally recognize that Newsom isn’t a perfect Governor - he’s made his mistakes before, but he’s also been so critical in what California has achieved thus far, as seen with his historic budget this year that allocated record funding towards our vital community services and public programs. And more recently, he has managed to stabilize COVID-19 rates in California, while ensuring that all California residents have access to a vaccine. Truly, the last thing our state needs during a global pandemic and climate crisis is unstable leadership from a party that continually diminishes the existence of our greatest health and environmental crises yet. The institution of a Republican governor would lead to dire consequences that would set our state back in progress and prevent us from addressing our urgent issues and goals, including the progressive policies that we’ve fought for so long and hard. Thus, it’s important that we vote NO on this recall to ensure that our communities continue to have an advocate, like Governor Newsom, who is working hard to control this pandemic and tackling our state’s most pressing challenges.
