California Democrats Come Out Against Taxpayer Deception Act

Both (former Governor) Jerry Brown and Governor Newsom are asking the California Supreme Court to remove the Taxpayer Deception Act from the November ballot. Both the governor and his predecessor (and the Legislature’s Democratic majority) contend that the measure is so extreme that it counts as a revision of the California Constitution, thus requiring a two-thirds legislative approval before being submitted to voters.

Newsom and Brown recognize this measure as a serious threat to the ability of Californians (both voters and the legislature) to raise basic revenue for their communities. It is a clear and extreme power grab by a well-funded group of right-wing extremists who want to undermine the democratic process. When even moderate politicians recognize something as extremely right-wing, you know it's bad.
