$41 Million in Funding Dedicated to CA’s Low Income Students

The new California budget will provide $41 billion in funding for higher education. The funding will provide a 5% spending increase for UC and Cal State systems and also provide significant funding for the California Community College system to directly support low income students. As 50% of California Community College Students are food insecure, this funding will go a long way to make sure that our students are safe and healthy. But these budget changes must be permanent, year after year, to ensure no student has to go hungry again.

Additionally, between this year and last year the state government has provided over $2.2 billion to housing-related projects for low income students. Older California students will also enjoy greater access to the Cal Grant program, increasing the amount of Cal Grant eligible students by 100,000. These changes are critical to protecting the future of our state education system.
