It’s Time to Talk About Disney

The state of Florida is about to pass legislation dissolving Disney’s special taxing district which currently allows the corporation to self govern. Although the decision was made to punish Disney for speaking out against the Governor’s Don’t Say Gay Bill (a piece of legislation we at Evolve California oppose as well) it is an important reminder that corporations SHOULD NOT function as self governing entities.

Corporations like Disney should not enjoy special tax exemptions in any state, including in California. Under Prop. 13’s corporate loophole wealthy corporations, like Disney, pay practically nothing in property taxes. It’s time to demand that corporations pay what they owe and restore billions of dollars to our schools and communities.
