Kansas Votes to Safeguard Abortion Rights
In a major victory for abortion rights, Kansas voters have decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution. This decision is in response to the recent reversal of Roe v Wade by the Supreme Court, a ruling that has restricted or removed the right to an abortion in many states. Champions of the Kansas bill cite a willingness to work across partisan lines and ideological differences as the reason for their success. The decision is especially important because most of the states located next to or around Kansas have banned abortion entirely, making Kansas a new safe haven for women seeking an abortion.
The Kansas decision prove that many Americans, regardless of political affiliation, support a woman’s right to choose and her right to bodily autonomy. A Pew Research Center survey found that a more than half of American adults disapproved of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe. Now, we must channel this energy into more funding for female reproductive health services across the nation and protect women who are unable to exercise their right to choose.
