Real Estate Giants Oust LA Progressive District Attorney
The November election is showing us exactly which candidates are going to fight for the people and which are in billionaires’ pockets. It’s clear which candidate is which in the Los Angeles County District Attorney race. Nathan Hochman, as of September 21st, has amassed a whopping $9.9 million from dozens of real estate industry names. Hochman, a former Republican, was able to raise this money through PACs like Los Angeles County Deserves Better. The PAC was able to raise around $1 million from wealthy real estate and entertainment executives on behalf of the candidate. With these massive independent expenditures, it’s even more important that we are aware of who is backing a candidate.
The Bay Area has seen a metastization of astroturf groups the likes of GrowSF, TogetherSF, NeighborsSF, etc. bankrolled by billionaires and out of state investors. It seems Los Angeles county is facing a similar issue this election cycle with the creation of LA County Deserves Better PAC. It must also be emphasized that Hochman was a former registered Republican, now turned Independent. Many candidates and political organizations throughout California can label their far-right positions to be “moderate” because they are running as Democrats. The fact that California is a deep blue state means nothing if running as a Democrat while still holding Republican ideologies makes you a viable candidate. We must always be wary of where a candidate’s campaign funds come from, but now it’s even more important because of how corporate interests are being so brazen about their involvement. California reeks of corporate election interference.
Industry writes big checks for Hochman in LA district attorney race
