Book Bans Aim to Silence Marginalized Voices

As this moment, the nation is witnessing a “unprecedented” increase in book banning campaigns. Books written by and for members of marginalized communities are being disproportionately targeted. Notably, prosecutors in Wyoming considered charges against a librarian for continuing to display the title “This Book is Gay.”

As reported by the American Library Association, the most frequently challenged book of 2021 was ‘Gender Queer,’ by Maia Kobabe. Students who are questioning their own gender identities or want to explore the topic of gender should have access to books that speak to their needs. Book banning limits the free exchange of ideas!
