Sacramento Teachers Echo National Concerns
On Thursday, thousands of staff in Sacramento Public Schools entered the seventh day of their strike, protesting against a Superintendent who has failed to address their needs with with adequate funding and support. The issues facing these teachers are similar to those being tackled by countless educators across the nation, including immense staff shortages and anxieties over one-time COVID-relief funds.
Unfortunately, many high-level administrators are using one-time COVID reliefs funds as an excuse to avoid increasing educators’ salaries while still filling their own pockets. Our state needs to ensure teachers in districts such as Sacramento that their concerns are valid and that their hard work during the pandemic has not gone unrecognized. We need to make one-time COVID relief funding permanent, so that school funding is CONSTANT and goes directly to teachers so that they can help their students.
