CA is Facing a Substitute Shortage!

A dedicated substitute teacher in working in Grossmont Union High School District has noticed that the pool of her co-workers is dwindling by the day. Teacher shortages run rampant in the district, and Monte Vista High School may be out 15 substitutes on any given day. The pandemic has pulled more teachers away from the classroom, and enrollment in the state’s teacher credentialing program has plummeted. We need to address this shortage IMMEDIATELY!

More state funding for teacher credentialing programs would reduce application fees and allow more low income Californians to enter the substitute pool. Additionally, more state funding is needed to retain teachers, increase classroom resources, and make California an attractive (and affordable) option for teaching. We are losing too many valuable employees and we must show them that we care through more funding!
