California Colleges Face Major Housing Crisis

Many college students across California are experiencing housing insecurity as a result of increased enrollment, hostile rental markets, and pandemic-imposed social distancing measures in dorms. This lack of secure housing negatively impacts student performance and is contributing to a larger cycle of stress and student debt among college-aged Californians.

Only 12 of 116 California community college campuses have housing programs, and over 16,000 students at the University of California and California State University remained on waitlists for housing this fall. Unless our state government provides more funding to increase access to affordable housing on college campuses, our students will remain vulnerable and unsheltered!
